Up Close with J R

They lay still on sand.

The soft crashing of the waves silencing all around them.

Upward they stared. Mesmerised.

The boy turned to his father and spoke.

“Do you see what I see daddy?”

“What do you see son?” The father replied.

“I see froggy smiles and crocodile tears.

I see grandad.

Sad, happy and scary swirly stuff.

I can see a whale and a dolphin and teddy bears.

Theres a dog too.

See there next to the bird.

He’s rolling over and over.

Do you see them dad?  Do you see what I see?”

“I see clouds son, white fluffy clouds.  That’s all I see………………..”

A wild rebellious child and adolescent his natural creative flare lay suppressed for many years.  For too long he was side tracked and controlled.  “No more!” he said one day  “unleash me!”  And into the wild he ran.  Over his shoulder he no longer looked.  Forward he moved and all around him he saw.  The past was gone and tomorrow had not yet come. Only the moment can exist.  To him only the moment matters.  Only the now is real…….

Motivated by a passion to create Jason captures explosive energy in order to create with expression leaving a lasting impression. He works in flurries tapping into his expressive energy while its flowing but always knowing when to stop.  Although at times he may appear deep and somewhat jaded his work is none the less refreshing.

Like a Darwinian pioneer in a new world he is excited and passionate about life & creating.  Believing everything we experience is stored within the mind and every decision we make there after affected by our archived thoughts.    Inspired by the likes of Pollock, Hart, Picasso, Basquiat, Bacon and Californian Artist and friend Darryl Dugas he produces his own very recognisable style.  He is primarily self - taught continuing to challenge himself and refusing to be bound by general artistic genres.  His work is varied and different but inviting.  A reflection of himself perhaps.

Jasons's artistic pursuit increased following a chronic injury and subsequent loss of life quality. Having to let go a fifteen year career and his sporting passions. He was sole destroyed unable to replace the things he had lost and loved so much.  However he now believes this mortal wound created a much needed humbling. Slowing him down and enabling to experience a world he was missing as he sped through life.  Divine intervention perhaps……………?

Jason is hell bent on engaging the world, in particular young people, in the arts as an expressive and therapeutic tool.  He is currently studying human sciences in order to pursue this passion.

Jason's other interests include writing, music, the ocean, yoga & fatherhood.
